BBC Reports from MIANZHU

• 3,000 reported dead
• Up to 4,800 people remain buried, but about 500 people were pulled out alive from destroyed buildings
Xinhua told the story of Qing Qing who was one of an estimated 1,000 school children trapped in the ruins of four schools in Mianzhu county.
"When Qing Qing saw a ray of light again after 20 hours in the wreckage of her school, she cried desperately for water. She was fed small mouthfuls of mineral water, with the lid of the bottle, in case excessive intake might worsen her internal injuries. Apparently still thirsty, the girl took out two yuan out of her pocket and asked 'Can you sell me a whole bottle please?'," Xinhua said. Qing Qing was later rescued from the rubble.
