BBC Reports from SHIFANG

• About 600 people were reported dead and up to 2,300 buried
• Two chemical plants collapsed, releasing a huge toxic cloud
Whilst visiting Shifang, Prime Minister Wen Jiabao said a big effort was under way to clear roads and restore electricity. He warned that food supplies needed to be delivered more quickly to feed hungry children.
"We will save the people. As long as the people are there, factories can be built into even better ones, and so can the towns and counties," Mr Wen told survivors on a loud-hailer. "The transportation of food must be faster, children are short of food," he added.
